Mounting a bearing is an art, it requires a lot of dedication and passion to deal with bearings. First and foremost, you require a bearing toolkit to properly lodge and dislodge a bearing from its frame. Due to an inaccurate mounting of the bearing, it may lead to brinelling of the bearing on the raceway, this could further lead to undermining bearing performance and affects the lifecycle of the bearing dearly.

Even the slightest and minutest dent or abrasion to the raceway can have an adverse effect on the bearing. The bearing gives a loud acoustic sound due to brinelling, it also causes increased torque levels. Here are some rules to be taken care of while mounting precision bearings:

  • The first rule that applies here is to avoid any kind of force to the bearings. This is especially important while assembling a bearing on its shaft or housing. Always press the inner ring while mounting a bearing to its shaft and press the outer ring while mounting a bearing into a housing.
  • Care should be taken to avoid giving shock loads to the inner or outer rings while mounting a shaft or into housing.
  • Sometimes, manually trying to fit a shaft into the bearing through the bore can cause brinelling to the bearing because of the excessive force. Hence, care should be taken to avoid the force.
  • While assembling the motor parts, a mechanic should be aware that bearings are attracted by the magnets and hence it can slip away from the fingers. For avoiding this situation, you can hold the motor shaft in your palm and insert the rotor cautiously. If your assembling process is automated than make use of an air cylinder and operate the assembly steadily.
